Convention of States Tour hits Chattanooga

Published in Blog on July 16, 2019 by Greg Alexander Clements

The Convention of States Tennessee State Director Tour recently landed in Chattanooga for the third of seven planned regional meetings throughout the year.

State Director Greg Clements and State Director for Grassroots Rev. Lyle Hill are visiting each of Tennessee's seven regions this year to meet with local leaders and volunteers in those regions.

This particular meeting was also attended by State Director for Research & Education Norman Bobo, Regional Captain Marshall Willis, District Captainss Claire Root and Walter Bowen, and Follow Up Team Leaders Yvonne and Hill Rogers.

The point of the tour is to energize the regions by creating buzz and activate Regional Captains to coordinate the events. The meeting format is determined largely by the number of new people that have committed to attend, but generally follow a similar format:

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Intro to COS Presentation
  • State strategy and Q&A
  • Recruiting pitch and more Q&A.

So far, the tour has been quite successful in energizing our existing leaders and volunteers, but it has also been surprisingly good for recruitment as well.

People that are attending these events as their first exposure to COS are going beyond just signing the petition. They are also volunteering for much-needed positions. In the three meetings to date, we have picked up a Content Writer, several District Captains, FUT applicants, and several "whatever you need" volunteers (my personal favorite)!
