F3 Legislation = Freedom, Federalism, and Fundamental Rights
It was a busy week for the legislative team in Louisiana. All three of our bills were heard for the first time in committee, and in each committee meeting, a COS team testified in support.
First was Senator Thomas Pressley’s bill, SB133, which says, “The World Health Organization, United Nations, and the World Economic Forum shall have no jurisdiction or power within the state of Louisiana.” This bill passed the Senate Commerce Committee Wednesday, and State Director Julie Sandifer spoke in support of it.
The next two bills were heard Thursday in the House and Governmental Affairs Committee. The first of our bills heard that day was HB 144, Representative Les Farnum’s bill, which “requires the Department of State to conduct an annual canvass no later than June 30th in order to update voter registration records.” Legislative Team member, Christy Haik, did an excellent job explaining the need for passage of this bill in her testimony. The bill passed and moves on to the House floor.
Following Christy’s testimony was Legislative Liaison Dale Clary’s opportunity to speak in support of Representative Beau Beauilleu’s HB 90. This bill prohibits implementation of federal election directives and guidance and the spending of federal money for elections under certain conditions. This bill also passed out of committee and will be heard on the House floor.
The Louisiana Legislative Team worked tirelessly prior to the current session, studying bills and rating them according to Convention of States F3 guidelines: Federalism, Freedom, and Fundamental Rights. The team would like to thank all of you who responded to our calls-to-action which asked you to contact your legislators who are members of the two committees hearing our bills this week.
With all of our bills passing out of committee within two days, the COSA Louisiana team is three-for-three and moving forward. We will continue to keep everyone informed about the next steps for our bills and ask for your help by responding to our calls-to-action. As we saw last year when COSA Louisiana was instrumental in the passage of HB 648 and it’s being the only bill to override the governors’ veto, your participation contacting your legislators is crucial to our success.
