Massachusetts Convention of States is elated to announce that state representative Steven G. Xiarhos (R-Barnstable 5th) will co-sponsor H 3660, the COS resolution.
Rep. Xiarhos's co-sponsorship is significant for many reasons, chief among them his position as ranking minority leader of the General Court's Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs, to which H 3660 has been assigned.
Rep. Xiarhos, known fondly in his district as the X-Man, is supporting the COS movement because of his personal philosophy and the growing support for COS in his district as registered by constituent communication with his office.
As Rep. Xiarhos wrote to Mass COS state director Michael Arnold:
"I live a life built on service before self and strongly believe we should all live a life worthy of the great sacrifices made for our freedom."I...believe in the principles built into the Convention of States movement and will always love our great Nation and the men, women, and families that serve and defend it."
Rep. Xiarhos-- more than most -- knows of what he speaks.
He is a Gold Star father whose son, Nicholas, was killed in action in Afghanistan. Rep. Xiarhos recently retired from the Yarmouth Police Department after over 40 years on the job.
Rep. Xiarhos embodies the spirit and approach of the citizen-legislator envisioned by the Founding Fathers. He will be a loyal and influential ally of Mass COS.
We thank Rep. Xiarhos for his service and support, and look forward to working with him to pass the COS resolution in Massachusetts.
