Numerous crises plague our nation today. Some are in the forefront of our minds, like the border, the schools, and government corruption. Others are on the back burner, having been around for so long, building slowly like a pot ready to boil over, that we’ve almost come to accept them. But that pot won’t simmer down, and unless it’s addressed, it’s going to explode!
One such crisis that can’t and shouldn’t continue is the obesity epidemic. Although some try and normalize this major health issue as “body positive” or “all bodies are beautiful,” and even suppress it with accusations of “fatphobia” and “bullying,” denial of the truth will not hold back the consequences. Around 75% of Americans today are overweight, 2 in 5 are obese, and more than 22 million are severely obese. Like it or not, the more you weigh, the more health problems you will have.
Maryland has also been the victim of our over-processed foods, with 29% of whites and 43% of blacks being overweight, according to 2022 statistics.
While there are a number of factors contributing to America’s weight problem, the biggest has been highlighted by former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.:
Knowing how insidious the U.S. Federal Government has become, is it really surprising that they - in collusion with corporate food monopolies and major pharmaceutical companies - purposefully keeping us sick? After all, the sicker you are, the weaker you are, and the more easily controlled.
In a recent article published in the Washington Times, Convention of States president Mark Meckler highlighted these issues:
“The federal government oversees our food supply, so it’s not surprising that its management often — or perhaps intentionally — misses the mark. For example, at the same time that the U.S. continues to sell ultra-processed foods that are banned in other countries (Mountain Dew, Cheez-Its, Skittles, Pop-Tarts, etc.), the government also restricts our access to healthier options, including raw milk, meat and even supplements.
In addition, government subsidies encourage farmers to grow more food than necessary, causing the number of calories available per capita in America to skyrocket over a 30-year period. In 2019, for example, per capita calories available for consumption in the U.S. neared 4,000 per person per day, whereas the world rate averaged less than 3,000. In response, food companies have saturated the market with more food options (many of which use heavily subsidized ingredients, including soybeans, wheat and corn) than ever… We should not be surprised that many of these ingredients appear in prevalent junk foods, including cereal, alcohol, soda, chips and fast food… We must not continue to put up with an agency that inundates our food markets with poison. We must abolish the Department of Agriculture and any other superfluous or corrupted government agency. Through an Article 5 convention, we can cut Washington down to size and ensure that our representatives again work for the people.”
Mr. Meckler hit the nail on the head!
Why is it that the federal government seems to be responsible for so many of America’s ills? Why are they so heavily involved in managing so much of our daily lives, and doing a poor – if not straight-up insidious - job of it at that! The short answer, of course, is because much of what Washington has its hands in now used to be controlled by state and local governments, or by the people themselves. What does the 10th Amendment on the Bill of Rights say?
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
The federal government has misinterpreted, misconstrued, and twisted the Constitution into something it was never intended to be, and We, the People have allowed it! It’s time for the corruption to end. It’s time to take our freedom back, and put the federal government back in its box!
Americans may be fat, but the fattest of all is Washington D.C., and the only exercise regimen that will save our nation is through Article V!
