This is not a political issue. It’s a humanitarian effort. The lives and livelihoods of every Maryland resident are at stake.
What am I going on about? It’s the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP). In an effort to stop the on-going threat to Maryland residents, an amazing grassroots movement has developed and is growing by leaps and bounds. You may be familiar. It appears the MPRP has now gotten the governor’s attention. Here’s an update:
Governor Wes Moore has finally noticed and has promised to speak with the offending corporations. This article from The Baltimore Sun outlines reaction from some legislators and residents involved in fighting the project. Time will tell where this goes. What’s important is that we the people do not let up in our efforts to fight this encroaching monster.
The power line could be fully operational by June 2027 if there are no setbacks. The Maryland Public Service Commission has the authority to decide if the project can move forward and has created an email address — piedmontcomments.psc@maryland.gov — where residents can provide feedback.
While the Governor promises to take action, there's no telling what that will look like. Please continue to connect with your local legislators as well as the Governor to weigh in. If you'd like to get involved in some way, Stop MPRP, Inc provides information on their website on how to do that. And, part of the process for project approval depends on public feedback. You can make your voice heard where it counts here.
Our world is changing. It’s up to us to monitor the changes and take action where needed. We are perfectly capable of creating our new world. We have a new administration coming in that is intent on paving the way by cutting red tape at the federal level. It’s up to us to do the work to ensure Maryland follows suit. Thank you for getting involved in any way you can. Things are looking up.
“We’re thrilled that the governor finally made an official statement,” said Joanne Frederick, co-founder of Stop MPRP. “We really welcome the governor’s scrutiny and work to come up with a better solution … The fight is not over, and we will continue to fight and explore every option to stop this project.”
Convention of States is working hard for you. We're making great progress toward getting an Article V Amending Convention called. In addition, we’re focused on connecting with people on issues they care about. If you're not sure that you can make a difference, we'd love to show you how. Let us know what’s top of mind for you. And if you haven’t yet signed the petition, here’s the link to let your legislators know you’d like their support.
We would love to collaborate with all Maryland residents to Make Maryland Great Again.
