Ask the Chief - The legislative session is sine die, now what?

Published in Blog on May 16, 2023 by Brett Kulbis

The Hawai`i Legislature has adjourned sine die for 2023 now we can all relax, right? Nope!

Hawai`i self-governing grassroots citizens stay involved long after the state legislative session adjourns.

We now shift our focus to building our district teams, educating our communities, and recruiting District Captains and Volunteer Activists in preparation for the 2024 Legislative Session.

Here are ways that you can remain active and promote liberty.

  1. Attend your local county council monthly meetings and be vigilant to both good and bad ordinances that support or oppose fiscal responsibility, government overreach, parental rights, or self-governance.

  2. If you live on Oahu, attend your local neighborhood board monthly meetings. Many candidates for county or state offices get started as neighborhood board members. It's also a great way to engage with your legislators and build on the relationship you started during the session.

  3. Attend your political party’s committee meetings. Political parties are organized at the county level, where the number of people involved is typically small. County parties are often short of volunteers and you can have more influence than you might think. Inquire about which committees need volunteers. Your county party may have committees involved in election integrity, campaigning, budgeting, social events, school curriculum, or fundraising.

  4. Attend COS Hawai`i events. The COS Hawai'i team is planning our 2023 activities. We will be participating in the Kailua 4th of July Parade and the fall Great Guns Show. Be sure to watch your email for other upcoming events like town halls and meet-ups. We are working hard to arrange an exciting array of guest speakers that you won’t want to miss!

  5. Brush up on your Convention of States knowledge. Review some COS University courses or take a new one. The more articulate our supporters are, the better they can spread the message and recruit new people to the cause.

Whew! That’s a long list! Challenge yourself to choose one of the above items and give it a try over the next several months. We have more volunteer activities you can do on our Volunteer's Menu of Activities page. Once you get the hang of a particular activity, double your fun by bringing a friend along!

We have to start engaging Hawai`i citizens now. This is especially true because of the shifting political climate. Self-governance and favorability of restraining the federal government are on the rise.

Now is the time to get involved in this movement to restructure the federal government. Tens of thousands of Hawai`i residents are in favor of term limits, fiscal responsibility, and a restrained federal government. Thousands of patriots, ardent as you and as dedicated to the cause of liberty, are searching for some mechanism to empower their voices. That mechanism is a Convention of States driven by We the People.

About "Ask The Chief" - Ever since the U.S. Navy established the enlisted rank of Chief Petty Officer (April 1, 1893), “Ask the Chief" has resounded throughout the ranks by both enlisted and officer. For over 125 years the Chief has been the expert leaders & trainers, fountain of wisdom, ambassadors of good will, authority in personnel relations as well as in technical applications. They are the backbone of the Navy just like the grassroot volunteers of COS.
