The most important choice: Are you a victim or an overcomer?

Published in Blog on July 06, 2021 by Mona Kita

We are constantly told that we are a divided nation. The media is filled with black vs white, gay vs straight, rich vs poor, and Republican vs Democrat.

However, the most significant division in our country is the victims vs the overcomers.

If you choose to see yourself as a victim, congratulations: you have already achieved your life's goal. You need trouble yourself no further. Snuggle under a blanket and watch some re-run television. Your job here is done.

However, prepare yourself for a life of accepting what you are given. Sub-standard living conditions: Don't dare dream of space for anything other than what your betters feel is just and fair. Sub-standard medicine: How dare you expect an MRI or an oncology visit in the next 6 months?

Maybe there will be a government cheese this year if there is surplus!

You won't need to struggle for anything as long as you remain satisfied with whatever the government condescends to give you.

The only requirement society has for you is that you continue to state how you have been victimized. The louder and more publicly you state your victimhood, the more perceived power you will have.

However, for those who choose to be overcomers, your life will never be easy. You will be required to try many things, and you will fail, over and over. You will have to devise new strategies, change your approach to problems, fight for every inch of ground. You will forever be in the trenches, but you will also know success, achievement, strength and pride.

You will learn new things, develop new skills and cultivate life-long allies who struggle and bleed, laugh and cry in the trenches with you.

Winston Churchill's speech on June 4, 1940 epitomized willingness to struggle to be an overcomer, not a victim.

We, brothers and sisters of COS, are not victims. We are not settlers. We are so much more than that. We are unwilling to have others tell us that we cannot change the way our government is run. We are unwilling to let our children's futures be ruined by remaining quiet and accepting our lot in life. We are unwilling to accept that we will be ruled by the elite in Washington.

At times we will fail. We will lose some votes in committee. We will have power-hungry politicians try to reframe the argument. We will be maligned and scoffed at, but, as Winston Churchill said,

We shall never surrender!
