The American Creed

Published in Blog on July 08, 2019 by Sarah Peloquin

America is the only nation in the world that is founded on a creed. That creed is set forth with dogmatic and even theological lucidity in the Declaration of Independence; perhaps the only piece of practical politics that is also theoretical politics and also great literature.

G.K. Chesterton

Thomas Sowell stated that,

Some Americans will never appreciate America, until after they have helped destroy it and have then begun to suffer the consequences.

The Israelites were freed from tyranny and then spent 40 years wandering in the desert, because they rejected the promised land and all that God offered as blessing upon blessing.

Focusing on the majority who complain and gripe and call for hatred and division, we so often miss a rather poignant promise.

There is always a remnant. Always.

There are always, in every generation, a faithful few who pass on their conviction and courage to the next generation. The faithful band of brothers and sisters will stand on the battlefield and not retreat in the face of an overwhelming army bent on the destruction of all they hold dear.

Today, we have pages and pages of interpretations and annotations, notes, and loopholes which have damaged our Constitution.

The Constitution was ratified in 1787. In the main document, there are 4,543 carefully and concisely crafted words to establish the format of the government and its three branches. Each branch is designated individual responsibilities and limitations. Adding the 27 amendments, we have a 7,591-word document that gives us exactly the right amount of words to understand how our government works.

If we need further extrapolation of the intent and thought processes of our founders, we need only turn to the Federalist Papers and other letters of the Founders.

Our Constitution can be kept in our pockets and brought out any time someone has a question about how far our government has fallen from its original purpose.

Most significant in that original document, there are 143 words that hold the power and potential for the faithful remnant to turn an entire nation back to its founding principles.

The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.

It was not the ten spies who shuddered in fear over the giants of Canaan who are remembered. It was the two warriors--Caleb and Joshua--who confidently praised an almighty God for a victory his people had yet to win.

The names of the colonists who gave their loyalty to a tyrant king are not remembered. The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence that stoked the fires of liberty and unity in a fledgling nation will be known by generations of those who adhere to the principles those signers held so dear.

Will we be so remembered as the voice of reason, conviction, courage, and strength? Or will we be the vocal majority who cry foul and stir the mob into division and hate, forgotten in the annals of time?

What will your contribution to history be? A warrior for liberty and truth? Or an opponent of these values?

Find your place in this fight by volunteering, giving to the cause, or spreading the word. Teach your children and grandchildren the truth about the one nation in the world built on a creed that is firmly rooted in God-given rights and a need for a government that will staunchly protect and preserve those rights.

Join the remnant. Do not shirk from the thirsty mob, baying for our destruction and theirs.

They will not be remembered for anything other than their abject failure.
