The following is a press release from the Governor's office.
AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today last week the upcoming release of his first book, Broken But Unbowed, which details his story of overcoming personal adversity and casts a vision of how, as a nation, we can restore the Constitution and address many of the problems our country faces today.
Broken But Unbowed recounts the story of how Governor Abbott lost his ability to walk when a huge oak tree crashed down on his back, fracturing vertebrae into his spinal cord, leaving him forever paralyzed. Realizing that our lives are not defined by our challenges, but by how we respond to them, Governor Abbott goes on to describe first-hand what it was like to be on the battlefield of historic legal fights to uphold our Constitution, and the lessons learned that compel the current need to amend the Constitution.
“We have effectively submitted ourselves to the rule of men and abandoned the rule of law on which our nation was built,” said Governor Abbott. “America was born as a nation in search of one thing: freedom to chart our own path.”
Governor Abbott is leading the effort to rein in the federal government and proposes an Article V Convention of States to restore the balance of power between the States and the United States.
“We face entrenched constitutional violations that require constitutional solutions,” Governor Abbott continued. “My hope is that after reading Broken But Unbowed, Americans will join the fight to restore lawful freedom and fix our country’s foundation.”
Broken But Unbowed will be available online and in bookstores on May 17th, and 100 percent of the net proceeds will be donated to Operation FINALLY HOME, a Texas-based non-profit that provides custom-built, mortgage-free homes to veterans and their families.
“We are tremendously grateful for Governor Abbott’s continued commitment to helping our military heroes – those who have worn America’s uniform and sacrificed so much to defend our freedoms and values,” said Dan Wallrath, president and founder of Operation FINALLY HOME. “His contributions to our efforts of providing mortgage-free, custom built homes to wounded, ill or injured veterans and widows of the fallen will help impact countless lives.”
Pre-orders of Broken But Unbowed are currently being accepted at www.gregabbott.com/book. Following the release of the book on May 17th, Governor Abbott will embark on a tour to promote the ideas in the book and advocate for a Convention of States.
