Texans Do the Hard Thing!

Published in Blog on April 13, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

THANK YOU!

Outside House Committee room
Convention of States Texas
volunteers waiting in line
for the hearing room to open.

With about 250 Convention of States volunteers attending the House Committee hearing on Thursday, April 13, we outnumbered the opposition 5 to 1! We had 70+ Convention of States supporters register to testify in FAVOR of HJR39. This is simply EXTRAORDINARY! YOU WERE AMAZING. This was absolutely one of our finest hours. We closed down the Capitol.

After 7 hours and 45 minutes of passionate and raw testimony, we believe that we did make a difference with key committee members who admirably stayed throughout the entirety of testimony, Chairman Drew Darby, Rep. Larry Gonzales and Rep. Rafael Anchia, along with HJR39 sponsor, Rep. Rick Miller. Please visit their facebook pages or call their offices next week to say thank you. This is also very important.

Convention of States Texas Co-Director Paul Hodson Recaps the Committee Hearing:

WE ARE NOT FINISHED. THE COMMITTEE WILL MOST LIKELY VOTE NEXT WEEK. We will be watching! If you can call one of the committee members offices please do so and ask them to vote HJR39 out of committee—we deserve a floor vote.

George Soros paid opposition from the group Common Cause decided to leave after hours of having to sit through our Convention of States volunteer testimony. In fact, ALL THE OPPOSITION left, none of them stuck around.

THE CONVENTION OF STATES VOLUNTEERS WERE THE LAST ONES STANDING. This should speak volumes about the crocodile tears from opponents and the strength of heart of each of you.

TEXANS DO THE HARD THING, BECAUSE IT'S THE RIGHT THING!

Since 2013, when the COS Texas team launched its effort, thousands of man-hours spent walking the halls of the Capitol, calling legislators, training citizens, giving presentations, writing emails to state reps and getting petitions signed has reaped rewards. The biggest reward is that Austin is listening—whether they want to or not. The will of the People of Texas matters. And legislators beware – we are watching you (and your vote) closely.

The Revolutionary period put a stake in the ground, a red-line if you will, to NEVER SURRENDER our sovereignty. Texas knows this all too well, as we celebrate the victory at San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. The spirit of those Texans who left very large boot-prints on the orange dirt are being filled by COS Texas volunteers, ranchers, refrigerator repairmen, homeschooling moms, teachers, physicians, veterans, retirees, small business owners and more, who believe the first responsibility as citizens is to preserve Constitutional order and recalibrate the balance of power between the federal government and the States.

The answer is Convention of States. The time is now!
