The candidates have made their final pleas, and now it's time for the people to decide. The Constitution empowers American citizens to choose their next leader, and millions of men and women will visit their local voting office and cast their votes in the next 12 hours.
Unfortunately, many voters feel more stressed than empowered on this election day. Americans from both sides of the aisle believe the opposing candidate poses a real threat to the future of our nation. The President wields an enormous amount of power by him or herself, and the opportunity to select Supreme Court justices only compounds the potential havoc the next President can wreak.
It wasn't supposed to be this way. The Founders imagined a federal government with specific, enumerated powers; a federal government the people would never have to fear.
Washington, D.C., is a far cry from that vision. The Supreme Court legislates from the bench with impunity. Congress spends this nation into the ground, and the President acts like a king.
It's a bleak picture, no doubt, but there is hope.
A movement has been sweeping the nation to restore the Founders' vision of a limited federal government. It's called the Convention of States Project, and millions of Americans have joined the cause.
State legislatures call a Convention of States under Article V of the Constitution. Once 34 states call for such a convention, all fifty states meet at the time and place specified by Congress.
At the Convention, states can propose amendments to the Constitution. These amendments can force Congress to be fiscally responsible, impose term limits on federal officials (including the Supreme Court), and, most importantly, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.
These amendments can strip the Supreme Court of its legislative ability, end the use of executive orders, and force Congress to stop wasting taxpayer dollars. They can ensure that no matter who is elected president, our country will continue to prosper and freedom will be preserved for generations to come.
So be sure to vote on this election day. But also be sure to check out a real solution to the problems plaguing our nation: an Article V Convention of States.
