Strafford County Republicans learn about Convention of States

Published in Blog on June 24, 2022 by Carol Petrusewicz

On the morning of June 11, the Strafford County Republican Committee met for their monthly meeting in Dover at Restoration Church at 80 Rutland Street.

Seamus Casey, Chairman of the Strafford County Republican Committee graciously allowed Convention of States to provide a short presentation. There were roughly 25 activists in the room, some of whom decided to spread the word about Convention of States!

Presenter and District Captain Carol Petrusewicz started off by reminding all listening of George Mason's wisdom. They had already written Article V, they were ready to go home, and George asked what happens when the federal government usurps their authority. They understood human nature.  They knew that power corrupts. All unanimously agreed – they had to write the 2nd part of Article V.

"...or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments..."

To distinguish, a constitutional convention creates a constitution and requires all 50 states to be bound.

Article V is not a constitutional convention. Article V can only amend our current U.S. Constitution and requires 38 states to ratify.

The Supreme Court has ruled on many court cases providing clarity on the Article V process.
The convention can ONLY propose amendments on specified topics in the applications:

There are those in NH that have spoken in opposition, which only silences the voice of the American people. George Washington predicted this.

Article V is the only non-violent way to reclaim our nation.

Article V is non-partisan. The Constitution was drafted for the benefit of the American people.

Why would anyone ever throw away or ignore a benefit written for such a time as this?

If we are happy with how Congress is behaving, we can do nothing and be sure to get much of the same.

If you want to do something simple that takes three minutes to protect America’s future for your kids and grandkids, go sign the petition.
