Servant Leadership: Part Three

Published in Blog on May 19, 2021 by Kurt O'Keefe

You should all read the book by David Kuhnert titled, Servant Leadership: Influencing Others to Get There by Leading a Transformational Life, and take the COS course.

THE TWO THERE'S

Me and We, the age-old conflict between our ego and what we should be doing for God and others.

"The WE THERE is transcendent and about serving  others where the ME THERE is self-serving and deceitful." -- David Kuhnert

There's no thinking or analysis needed for me to want what I want; what I think I need. It is my default setting.

The ego tricks me, sometimes, into thinking the ME there is really the WE there; that what is best for me is really best for you all as well.

This is just another ego lie.

The truth is, doing what is best for God and others is what is ultimately best for me, though it may not feel good at the time.

In Biblical terms we can understand the two THEREs as the Spirit and the Flesh. -- David Kuhnert

Here is something I try to do regularly:

Taking the time to examine our motives can help us realize that sometimes when we want to “fix” others to make our lives better we are serving ME instead of  WE. -- David Kuhnert

I have to step back and think: Am I doing this to look good? To call attention to myself? To get the approval of others?

It's useful to run some ideas by others before flinging them out there.

And don't get paralyzed into doing nothing because you are afraid of making a mistake.
