Servant Leadership and Convention of States

Published in Blog on April 16, 2021 by Kurt O'Keefe

Citizens for Self-Governance, the group that launched the Convention of States Article V movement, is based on the idea of servant-based leadership.

The ideas are in the book Servant Leadership available on Amazon.

The central message is that leadership means “influencing others to get THERE by leading a transformational life.”

I have read the book twice and taken the course COS offers. We are all at our own HERE now. Where we want to get is our THERE.

The distance between these is our PATH. Along the PATH, we employ the Act-Learn-Adjust principle.

Boy, does that describe politics!

Think of Mark Meckler getting active to organize thousands in the Tea Party Patriots, leading to great election victories across the land in 2010.

What happened?

Most did not follow through on the promises that got them elected, co-opted by party leadership or showing their true colors.

Mark learned that electing the right people won't fix a broken system. So, he adjusted, and Citizens for Self-Governance was born.

To reach our THERE, we must have clarity about our goal.

“Every mission in the military contains the task, what is to be accomplished, and the purpose for it.”

All of us in COS are citizen leaders. The current THERE for COS Michigan is to get our Article V resolution passed in the legislature.

The milestones are passage in the House and Senate committees, then approval by each full body. That is one goal, but not our transcendent goal.

We passed the House committee in 2016. Nothing further. We passed the Senate committee in 2018. Nothing further.

Did we stop?

Of course not! We apply the Act-Learn-Adjust principle. We are rocking and rolling in Michigan with unprecedented numbers of new volunteers.
