According to David Kuhnert and his book Servant Leadership: Influencing Others to Get There by Leading a Transformational Life, SMART goals are milestones on the way to our THERE.
S-Specific: You want your goal/milestone to be specific, clear, and free of jargon.
M-Measurable: You and others know it was completed (quality, quantity, dollars, etc.)
A-Acceptable or Achievable: Is it in your control or influence to accomplish? Practical, realistic.
R-Results Oriented: Serves the organization’s purpose and objective. Results, not action.
T-Time Bound: Clear target date or deadline for completion.
A goal (not the THERE) for Convention of States in Michigan is the passage of the Article V resolution.
Our next big project is Surge Day on June 10, at the Capitol in Lansing. Milestones along the way:
- Can you attend?
- Can you get five other COS supporters to attend?
- Can you drive anyone or otherwise arrange transportation for others to get there?
- Can you write a letter to your local paper about the event (when we are closer to the event)?
- Can you contact your state legislators to support the resolution?
- Do you have any radio talk show or other media contacts that you can share with your state team?
