Senate Republicans betray America

Published in Blog on December 27, 2022 by LeRoy E Cossette

It seems that the two Democrat leaders of the Senate, Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell, have finished off that bottle of Kentucky bourbon, smoked all of their expensive cigars, and come to an agreement on a $1.7 trillion omnibus bill.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and 18 of his Republican Senate followers betrayed all American Republicans by working with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the Democrats to gain passage of this horrendous spending bill. Is this Washington congressional corruption at its best or not?

McConnell defended the spending bill by stating, “Providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians is the number one priority for the United States right now, according to most Republicans, that’s how we see the challenges confronting the country at the moment.”

Sen. Jerry Moran (R-KS) also defended the bill, stating that it would help Afghan refugees.

What about all the Americans who need help in defending our southern border? Or all the Americans who need help putting food on the table or gas in their vehicles?

This massive omnibus bill will cost taxpayers about $1.9 trillion next year at a time when American families are hurting from high inflation and the government is already $31 trillion in debt.

This spending bill will undoubtedly advance the Left’s big-government policy agenda.

This bill further includes $575 million for “family planning/reproductive health, including in areas where population growth threatens biodiversity or endangered species” throughout the globe. This literally puts plants before people. This provision sees humanity as a parasite, as a threat to the plants and animals that congressional members clearly see as vastly more important than the American families who Congress is supposed to protect.

This bill also includes at least 4,000 earmarks to pay for the pet projects of senators and representatives. Earmarks have been banned for 10 years, but lawmakers from both parties have brought them back. A small sampling of this year’s pork barrel spending includes:

  • $1.5 million to encourage people to eat outdoors in sunny Pasadena, California.
  • $1.1 million for a solar array in cloudy Kirkland, Washington.
  • $2 million for B360, a group that promotes dirt-bike culture in Baltimore.
  • $3 million for the tiny and remote island of St. George, Alaska, for water infrastructure and $2.5 million for harbor improvements, for a total cost of over $82,000 per resident.
  • $500,000 for a skate park in Rhode Island.
  • $4.8 million for an environmental impact report on the possible expansion of Chicago’s rail transit system. Bureaucracy at work.
  • $13 million to expand the airport in the tiny city of Abbeville, Alabama.
  • $4 million for “Soy-Enabled Rural Road Reconstruction” in Iowa.
  • $1.6 million for the Leahy Center in Vermont, named after Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. The member who requested the earmark? Sen. Patrick Leahy.

Funding for a wide array of woke organizations and left-wing activists. More corruption.

How many of the above pork barrel earmarks are constitutionally state responsibilities and not the federal government's? Almost every single one. It's far past time for an amendment restricting federal overreach.

While hardworking families struggle under the weight of inflation caused by Washington’s reckless spending spree, Congress is going full-steam ahead with wasteful and inappropriate earmarks.

This massive spending package allows money to be diverted from Social Security’s trust fund—and then reimbursed by taxpayers—to cover union expenses.

It also can be used to pay Social Security Administration employees to work for their union instead of performing the jobs they were hired to do for America’s seniors and retirees. Say what?

It is very clear that our congressional members put the federal government before American families with this bill.

Border patrol was allotted several billion. Sounds encouraging for the securing of our borders right?

Unfortunately for America, the answer is no. The bill prohibits the spending of any of that money from being spent on border security. But it does provide millions for financial assistance to foreign countries to secure their borders.

Think it’s time to add an amendment to our Constitution enforcing a balanced budget and limiting government spending?

Yes, it can be done with the support of every patriot by signing the COS petition and taking action. If you've already signed the petition, then we need each of you to become more active before it's too late.

These are the Republican senators who voted along with McConnell for the passage of this bankrupting bill and in doing so have committed a stunning act of betrayal of their constituents and the American people – many of whom would not have been members of the Senate under term limits.

Roy Blunt, Missouri
John Boozman, Arkansas
Shelley Moore Capito, West Virginia
Susan Collins, Maine
John Cornyn, Texas
Tom Cotton, Arkansas
Lindsey Graham, South Carolina
Jim Inhofe, Oklahoma
Mitch McConnell, Kentucky
Jerry Moran, Kansas
Lisa Murkowski, Alaska
Rob Portman, Ohio
Mitt Romney, Utah
Mike Rounds, South Dakota
Richard Shelby, Alabama
John Thune, South Dakota
Roger Wicker, Mississippi
Todd Young, Indiana

Seems the Grand Old Party has given up its oversight power without a fight.

So, what happened to the party of fiscal constraint? Is conservatism dead in the Republican Party? Are these Republican congressional members attempting to destroy a party already struggling?

They seem to have done all the right things by voting for passage of this bill to make those Republican constituents already on the fence decide that maybe enough is enough and form a third “conservative” party.

But wait, you say.... Creating a third party will give the Democrats a huge advantage in all future elections. Really? When so many Republicans can be dependent on to consistently vote with the Democrats, what’s the difference?

Well, we now know that our fearless Republican leader, Mitch McConnell, is actually an ebbed Democrat charged with assuring the Senate always goes along with the Democrats.

Well, we’ll give him credit for doing an outstanding job in swaying fellow Republican senators to betray their constituents.

Like President Trump said, "what have you got to lose?" At least by signing the petition and supporting COS's attempt to add amendments to rein in our corrupt government, we can all say we tried as opposed to just rolling over and just letting it happen.
