SB 370 Passes Senate Committee!

Published in Grassroots Library on February 28, 2024 by David Copeland

Thanks to all who responded to the Call to Action last week regarding SB 370. The Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee voted today to send this measure on to the Senate for consideration. A corresponding bill, House Bill 2476 is in the House Fed & State Committee. These identical bills prohibit Congress from designating Kansas land as a National Heritage Area or National Historic Trail without the consent of the Kansas Legislature.

These bills do not stop federal overreach but do provide a check on the federal government, acting through the National Park Service, to create another federal jurisdiction without local approval.

Senator Jeff Longbine remarked that a number of people in his district wanted to see this measure go forward. That means your grassroots action hit the target. Thank you Kansas!
