Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, and that's even true in the great state of Texas.
A Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Platform Sub-Committee has recommended removal of the Convention of States resolution (SJR2), which passed the Texas legislature on a bipartisan vote in May of last year.
The Convention of States Texas team didn't take that lying down, and they issued the following statement:
The Convention of States Project Texas rejects all platform language referencing the rescission of SJR2, the Convention of States resolution passed on May 4, 2017, with bi-partisan support. It is apparent that a tiny group of anti-constitutionalists within the RPT supports efforts to thwart work by Texas citizens to permanently drain the swamp and restore the Constitution and return rightful power back to the people and the States. In the 85th Texas Legislative Session, more than 3,000 citizen-activists showed up weekly at the state capitol, and more than 100,000 COS supporters in every state house district in Texas, worked tirelessly with legislators to pass SJR2. This is a pathetic attempt by RPT Platform Sub-committee elitists trying to wield their waning power and “stick-it” to the grassroots. The COS Texas grassroots message is clear – we are NOT going away. We are engaged, educated and on-site prepared to battle for Constitutional First Principles.
The fight isn't over just because your state passed the Convention of States resolution. Anti-Constitutional, status quo-loving forces will continue to work against We the People, and you may be called once again to defend your state's right to call a Convention of States.
