Coffee, Conversation, and Convention of States in Rapid City

Published in Blog on May 02, 2021 by Jackie Rausch

The first of many Coffee, Conversation, and Convention of States events kicked off on May Day.

There were more than 20 patriots gathered at the Pure Bean coffee house on Main Street in Rapid City on Saturday, May 1. Many of them shared how fed up they are with the federal government and what is happening to our country.

COS South Dakota District Captain John James coordinated the event, saying he enjoys just getting to visit with people about the movement.

"What I like best is getting to connect with people who are like-minded citizens in our area," said James. "Gathering strengthens the bond in our neighborhoods and gives us a chance to meet talk and set up follow up activities to get together. "

District Captains Derek Besler, Chris and Deanna Becket, and Mike Weiler shared how Convention of States is our only hope to rescue our nation from federal tyranny.

"We pretty much took over the whole back room at the coffee shop, which was cool," said James. "Chris gave a short presentation about the overview of COS which kicked off the conversation and led to questions and good discussion."

Topics included the fundamentals of Article V, answering objections, the opposition, and reviewing state strategies.

"During the event we talked about not only about Convention of States on our South Dakota level but also how the national level events all link together when it comes to our federal got checks and balances," added James.

To wrap up the session, different ways to get involved were shared: fairs, gun shows, and online opportunities. New petitions were signed. As attendees left, discussion led to more opportunities to gather with other groups and friends in homes. Over 10 people signed up to become more involved and volunteer with the grassroots movement.

"This is a simple event to set up," said James. "I hope it can inspire other District Captains across the state to set some up to get together."

The Rapid City team is planning to have more events like this in the area, so keep an eye out for another chance to get together within this summer.

Those from all over South Dakota can join Convention of States and get involved.
