Prayer is the Church's responsibility for peace

Published in Blog on March 27, 2020 by Katherine Del Conte

This is a time for the church to fulfill our responsibility for peace at a tumultuous time in our country.

Last week Prayer Warriors Team Coordinator Sharon Correll summoned us to weekly prayer webinars. This will be one of a mini-series of blogs on prayer, since we are entering in to an extended time of prayer.

Church in Greek translates “to call out of,” meaning that the church is a people called apart to do God's work. His work is out there in the world.

We are no longer under an old covenant, where God worked for the people. We now live in a new covenant where God works through his people.

Under the old covenant people cried out to God to do His work. Now, His spirit lives in us and we are to do His work, because all authority has been given to Christ. We are His ambassadors, using His authority.

Now we can act like the kings and queens He has made us to be. We speak to the mountain (whatever the problem is) and tell it to move in Jesus’ name (Matthew 21:21).

Once I choose to believe Scripture, I pray until I see my prayer answered. I stand in faith, I do not waiver (James 1:6).

He loves you and wants you to have the things you ask for. You must believe that it is God’s will to answer every prayer (Matthew 7:7-11).

God answers prayer for two reasons. The first, so He can be glorified. “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13)

The second reason God answers prayer is so your joy may be made full. “Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” Isn't that beautiful? That your joy may be full.

He wants His children full of joy!

I was listening to the news this morning, and I heard one of the reporters saying that people are putting up Christmas lights at this time of uncertainty as a means to bring them joy.

As believers, we have a peace and joy beyond all earthly understanding. Our answered prayers bring joy!

Effective prayer comes when you believe that you are God's child and He is your Father. Jesus told us to pray to our Father.

God wants to answer every prayer, so that he gets glory and you receive joy. Praying His word is His will.

Next week we’ll discuss the different kinds of prayer. Different prayers have different rules, like in sports. Football and basketball have different rules but are both sports.

We will look at each kind of prayer and how they can be used to both overcome the wiles of the enemy and bring peace to ourselves, our families, and the world.
