As I’ve been preparing the COS prayer guide for April and considering how to pray about the COVID-19 crisis, these are ideas that have come to mind. I invite you to join with me in agreement for God to work in these areas.
- Pray Isaiah 40:31 for for President Trump, VP Mike Pence, and the task force as they manage all the aspects of the crisis.
- Pray for God’s comfort and peace for those who have lost loved ones.
- Claim Psalm 90:12 for our nation — that we will number our days with wisdom.
- Pray for extra strength and supernatural protection for medical staff during this time, according to Psalm 91:3-6.
- Pray for guidance and inspiration for researchers who are working on vaccines and treatments.
- Many intrusions on liberty begin during times of national crisis. Pray for Americans to be vigilant.
- There is so much unknown about both the disease and the impact that various courses of action might have. Claim Daniel 2:20-22 for those making decisions.
- Ask God to abundantly bless businesses that have made adjustments to provide medical equipment and resources.
- Pray for believers to take advantage of many opportunities to bless those in need during the crisis.
- Many intercessors see the crisis as a divine shaking (Heb 12:26-27). Call on God to work his purposes in the nations and pray that believers will walk in faith and confidence.
- Pray for government officials to find the balance between the needs of the community and the rights of the individual.
- Pray for wisdom about how and when to release experimental drugs to the public.
- Pray for effective cooperation between government officials of many nations, and for preservation of national sovereignty.
- Pray that the crisis will result in medical breakthroughs that will bless the world for years to come.
- Call on God to show his power in miraculous healing and even resurrections from the dead.
- Pray for creative approaches for businesses economically impacted by the crisis.
- Ask God to provide crucial understanding about the dynamics of the disease.
- Pray for public officials to truly make decisions for the good of the people, not their own political benefit.
- Ask God to use the economic downturn to confront materialism and increase faith in his provision, according to Matthew 6:31-33.
- Pray for churches to find creative approaches to worship and ministry.
- Ask God to break the spirit of fear in America and around the world, and especially that believers will walk according to 2 Tim. 1:7.
And last but not least:
- Ask God to pour out a new Great Awakening that will spread to the ends of the earth!
