Pruning is Healthy for both Trees & Fed. Govt.

Published in Blog on January 09, 2025 by John A Luce

This picture delivers a powerful punch that’s hard to deflect, regardless of your political affiliation. There's an exception for those who endorse Marxism as a replacement for our present political-economic model, best summarized by what Vladimir Lenin famously stated: “The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation.” He seems to have a good point! How better can it get, he thought, than to see “pernicious” Capitalism succeed in destroying itself?
Assuming the reader doesn’t desire that sad outcome, we can explore the means of placing this growing elephant in the room on a crash diet, as it otherwise is already crowding out and may soon crush our productive private sector.
Clearly, our nation’s system of taxation and related regulations have become a monstrosity that consume precious time and resources and weigh most heavily on small business owners and their employees who could be much more productive without having to deal with such onerous and confusing red tape.
Who benefits from this crazy mountain of paper? There are several beneficiaries, including bureaucrats who create convoluted regulations; the accounting profession acting as the priesthood dedicated to researching this arcane field; the most wealthy seeking loopholes; and lobby-savvy enterprises given favored taxation status that primarily serves to distort what otherwise would be open and competitive markets. Certain industries gain directly from selective credits, deductions and exemptions to meet arbitrary ( or “scientific”) benchmarks, such as lowering carbon emissions for climate-change-driven goals.
The whole system is a largely a mystery, a closed society unintelligible to most working Americans who simply seek to earn a living, pay their rent or mortgage (good deduction though it may be), put increasingly more expensive food on their table, raise their families, and yet are generally willingly to pay their fair share of taxes to a trustworthy government.. for which they expect to receive commensurate benefits.
How is this working out for them/us? The fiery revolutionary leader and a Founding father of our nation, Patrick Henry, warned us about the potential “unlimited power of taxation” that he foresaw in the creation of our federal government; he sensed the restrictions on our newly centralized authority outlined in the Constitution would prove to be inadequate, and he has been “spot on”. Imagine what would be his reaction to the 16th Amendment and the creation of the IRS?
So.. how do we begin to reduce the size and scope of this lumbering Leviathan? Using another analogy, let's think about foresty.
As the website “Forestry” advises us: “Pruning and thinning are fundamental tree management techniques that support the health, growth, and longevity of trees. Whether managing a forest, urban landscape, or home garden, these methods are vital for ensuring that trees flourish in their environments. Pruning involves removing select branches to encourage healthy growth…. (contributing to) individual tree vitality but also to the overall health of forest ecosystems. By implementing proper pruning and thinning strategies, tree managers can create stronger, more resilient ecosystems capable of withstanding environmental challenges such as disease, pests, and climate fluctuations.”
Let’s apply a sensible and healthy branch lopping technique to the IRS and other areas of our federal government that are clearly way overdue for a proper pruning – and do this for their as well as OUR overall good, health and longevity. We must remind them: They do report to us, after all.
What can we as citizens actually do to make a difference?
Consider what Convention of States Action has to offer as a lasting solution big enough to prune this overgrown tree (or reduce the elephant) to a size that we the people can tolerate. It is long overdue!

How?
Consider becoming an active patriot by supporting our nationwide grass roots organization, as we seek to revitalize both the reality and the spirit of Federalism by returning powers originally possessed by each individual State (all 13 of which which formed the federal government) that have gradually relinquished those powers to a central authority, that is, to our now enormous & recklessly spendthrift Leviathan of a federal government. Washington DC will clearly never rein itself in, without our actively pressuring them to do so. We offer peaceful and legal solutions to our gravest national ills, founded within Article V of the Constitution.
You can begin by signing our petition or by introducing it to others who have yet to do so:
Convention of states New Hampshire has filed the Convention of States resolution for 2025, but we need your help to push it forward before the legislative session starts.
Use this link: https://conventionofstates.quorum.us/campaign/102457/
to connect directly with your state legislators and urge them to support this crucial resolution.
It's simple, fast, and your action could be the deciding factor in:
