President proposes congressional term limits, but can it pass?

Published in Uncategorized on May 01, 2018 by Article V Patriot

Capitol Hill is abuzz with an idea that could address one of the biggest problems with our national government.

President Trump and Congressman Mark Meadows both voiced their support on Twitter for congressional term limits, a proposal that would require an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The President gave his “full support and endorsement” to an effort by freshman lawmakers to impose term limits, and Rep. Mark Meadows replied by saying he’s “100% on board Mr. President. Let's make it happen.”

This sounds great, but there’s a problem. Congress hasn’t even brought a term limits amendment up for a vote in the last six years, and the President and one congressman can’t force them to do so.

Why would Congress vote to place term limits on themselves when national office comes with so many perks, kickbacks, and ego-inflating power?

They won’t, despite the best efforts of a few well-meaning reps and the President.

That’s why We the People need to call an Article V Convention of States.

Career politicians are one of the most serious but least discussed problems facing our nation. Multi-term legislators lose sight of their original mission (to serve their constituents) and become obsessed with getting reelected and maintaining power.

A Convention of States is controlled by the states and has the power to propose an amendment that would stop this from happening. Millions of Americans have joined the effort, and it’s being considered in state legislatures across the country.
