Perry’s Patriots Meet Our State Director

Published in Blog on May 05, 2022 by Tommy Jensen

On Wednesday evening of April 27th, the city of Perry’s Ditch Witch Heritage Center was the location where 30 concerned and enthusiastic local citizens attended an informative introductory presentation to Convention of States by our State Director John Guinn.

SD Guinn’s briefing was very expansive. He focused on how the organization started and its current mission to help the Oklahoma state legislature and their resolution application to Congress under Article V of the Constitution of the United States. Director Guinn emphasized the necessity for calling of a convention of the states limited to proposing amendments to the United States Constitution that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and members of Congress. Importantly, SD Guinn highlighted Colonel George Mason’s efforts at the Federal Convention of 1787 that established Article V within the Constitution.

Following SD Guinn’s presentation, questions and discussions were initiated by the very knowledgeable citizenry of Perry. Topics of interest focused on Article V of the U.S. Constitution, history of the Convention of States organization, number and momentum of “Passed States,” and what groups or individuals support or oppose Convention of States Action Oklahoma.

Director Guinn concluded on the underlying theme behind the Convention of States in the form of a question to the Perry patriots: Why call a Convention of States? Simple: To bring power back to the states and the people, where it belongs. Unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. should not be allowed to make sweeping decisions that impact millions of Americans. But right now, they do. So, it all boils-down to one question: Who do you think should decide what is best for you and your family; you, or the feds? We would vote for the American people every single time.

After State Director Guinn’s presentation, the event’s host and organizer, State Event and Communications Coordinator Marty Piel provided a tour of the Ditch Witch Heritage Center and talked about the Cherokee Strip Land Run of 1893, early history of the City of Perry, and the history of the Ditch Witch organization.
