On Monday, August 23, 2021, my son and I joined a crowd of 1,000 parents, teachers, and students as we gathered in front of the Douglas County School District to protest the last-minute instatement of what many of us believe to be an unconstitutional mask mandate. This was the first time in my life I had ever attended any kind of “protest,” and remarkably, the same was true for everyone I met and spoke to that day.
“Have you ever been to anything like this before?” I asked countless people. Time after time, their answer was the same, “Never. This is my first time. How does this all work?” I had to admit, I had no idea how it worked since it was my first time, too. But the vibe was cheerful and friendly, and my son and I were both glad we attended with our handmade signs.
Since that date, much has transpired in Douglas County. The KidsFirst conservative school board candidates are out-matching the progressive candidates by a lot in fundraising; in fact, it’s not even close.
Students at multiple high schools organized walkouts on the first day the mask mandate was enforced. Douglas County has formally facilitated its “divorce” from the government overreach of non-elected Tri-County Health (TCHD), and the county is moving forward in forming its own health department.
Valor High School recently announced it would not to follow the TCHD mask mandate because “we are no longer under the jurisdiction of Tri-County Health.”
During the past 30 days, numerous lawsuits have been filed against school boards, county health departments, employers, and government officials.
We the people are no longer content to sit in our living rooms and yell at our screens. We the people are taking back our power.
Convention of States fits naturally into many conversations now, because people are now actively looking for ways to stop government overreach and overspending, and to take back our rights and our liberties.
The sleeping giant has awakened!
