While celebrating our country’s birth, Convention of States South Dakota patriots found an explosion of enthusiasm for COS. Volunteers of the grassroots movement rallied in Belle Fourche to spread the word and participate in the Black Hills Roundup Parade.
For decades the Black Hills Roundup Parade has been the largest Fourth of July parade in the Black Hills region, and this year's event might have been the biggest yet. With some communities skipping celebrations, Belle Fourche was brimming with enthusiastic Americans. Convention of States was well-represented with an entry in the parade, as well as opportunities throughout town for people to sign petitions.
“It was inspiring to see so many people gathered to celebrate the independence of our country,” said Kirk Rausch, COS volunteer. “Throughout the parade route we had a lot of thumbs up, many groups of cheering people, and several people tell us they had already signed the petition!”
The goal for the small group was to continue to educate people on the three pillars of COS: limit federal spending, create term limits for federal officials, and limit federal overreach. Volunteers capitalized on any chance to talk with people and ask them to join the movement.
"The patriots in Belle Fourche over the Fourth of July were more than anxious to support Convention of States petition drive,” said District Captain Harvey Fitzgerald, District 30. “The only limiting factor that kept us from gaining even more new supporters was the number of volunteers available to share information and circulate petitions.”
If you would like to become an active volunteer, you can sign up and join the movement today. We have several positions available across the state of South Dakota.
