Oklahoma Achieves Success in Capitol Visit Day 2024

Published in Uncategorized on February 09, 2024 by Becky Wolfe

Convention of States Oklahoma grassroots joined other state teams around the country to host a "Visit the Capitol Day" at the beginning of it’s legislative season for 2024. On February 6th Oklahomans came from around the state to get informed and connect with each other, their legislators and the team.  The meeting kicked off with a welcome by Regional Director Jonathan Viaud and State Director John Guinn.  It was the largest gathering for a Oklahoma season kickoff in 3 years.

Before teams went to the floor there was some conversation that took place about one of the most crucial leadership votes in the Senate coming up right away that is scheduled for Monday February 12th. This is the role of Senate President Pro Tem. How your Senator votes affects you was discussed.

Attendees divided into groups and visited all 5 floors of the Capitol, visiting legislators and their assistants, talking about Article V, and the power of a convention of the states.  Individuals concentrated on networking with each other, and building relationships.

At lunch between sessions, speakers that came to address the group included State Education Superintendent
Ryan Walters, State House Representative Tom Gann, State House Representative Chris Banning, State Representative Mark Lepak, and State Senator Warren Hamilton.

The respect for individualism, personal liberty and self governance were very much apparent thru-out this event. Out of shared patriotism, and love of country comes a cry of the people for freedom and liberty to have for the next generation. We the people are building unity for stronger communities.  Stronger communities can effect change in our state.  Well done Oklahoma!
