Mark Blankenship Enterprises conducted a statewide poll of 1,359 likely West Virginia voters on February 24-26, measuring support for the West Virginia teacher’s strike, President Trump, Congressional approval and the Convention of States Project. Republicans, Democrats and Independents were part of this survey.
West Virginia is ready to join other states in calling an Article V convention.
Almost three-fourths of respondents (70%) favor West Virginia calling for a convention of states to propose constitutional amendments that limit federal spending, limit federal power, and establish term limits for Congress and/or federal judges.
Support for this effort crossed party lines, with 76% of Republicans supporting and 65% of Democrats in favor. The resolution calls for an Article V convention for these specific purposes is currently pending before the West Virginia House (HCR 57) and Senate (SCR 9).
Commenting on the survey, Convention of States Action President Mark Meckler said, “Only one question remains—will West Virginia legislators comply with the will of the people, or will they do the bidding of the tiny group of anti-constitutionalists—mostly from out of state--who oppose Article V of our Constitution? Will they stand with the ruling elite to keep power in Washington, D.C. or will we see them stand and fight to return power to West Virginians in this heated election year?”
Teacher Work Strike Approval
The poll revealed strong approval for the teachers’ strike at 70%, with just 28% disapproval. Since this survey, a deal has been struck between the Governor and teachers.
Trump and Congress Job Approval
Almost two-thirds of West Virginians think President Trump is doing a good job – 63.5% approve, 34.9% disapprove. There is more intensity on the disapproval side (38% strongly disapprove, 30% strongly approve).
Congress generates a widely negative rating today – fully 73% disapprove. Disapproval prevails throughout the state, among men and women of all ages and across party lines.
Methodology: A total of 1359 interviews were conducted February 24-26, 2018 among a statewide sample of likely voters in West Virginia between the ages of 18-64.
