New Nebraska poll indicates overwhelming support for Convention of States

Published in Uncategorized on February 27, 2018 by Article V Patriot

LINCOLN, NE, February 27 – Moore Information research firm conducted a statewide poll of 350 likely Nebraska voters on February 21st and 22nd, measuring support for the Nebraska’s Governor race, president Trump, Congressional approval and the Convention of States. Republicans, Democrats and Independents were part of this survey.

Constitutional Amendments to Limit Federal Power

More than two-thirds of Nebraska voters--66%-favor Nebraska calling for an Article V convention to propose constitutional amendments that limit federal spending, limit federal power, and establish term limits for Congress and/or federal judges.  Republicans widely favor Nebraska calling for a Convention of states (79% favor), as does a majority of Democrats (53). The resolution to support an Article V convention for these specific purposes is currently pending in the Nebraska Senate (LR 6).

Commenting on the survey, Convention of States Action President Mark Meckler said, “Only one question remains—will Nebraska legislators comply with the will of the people, or will they do the bidding of the tiny group of anti-constitutionalists in the state who oppose calling a Convention of States? Will they stand with the ruling elite to keep power in Washington, D.C. or will we see them stand and fight to return power to Nebraskans in this heated election year?”

Trump and Congress Job Approval

A narrow majority of Nebraska voters approve of the job President Trump is doing – 56% approve, 42% disapprove.  There is nearly equal intensity on the “approve and disapprove” ends of the spectrum, as 39% “strongly” approve and 34% “strongly” disapprove. Republicans widely approve (77% approve) but Democrats are unimpressed (83% disapprove) and among Independent/other voters, 49% approve, 42% disapprove.

Congress generates a widely negative rating today – 32% approve and fully 66% disapprove.  Disapproval prevails among most subgroups however, Republicans are less likely to disapprove than Democrats or Independents, and self-described “very Conservative” voters actually approve of the job Congress is doing (56% approve, 40% disapprove).

2018 Nebraska Governor Race

In the race for the Republican nomination for Governor, Pete Ricketts holds a substantial lead over Krystal Gable (69% Ricketts, 10% Gabel, 21% undecided). Ricketts is the favorite among all GOP subgroups today.

The race for the Democrat nomination is wide open, however, with fully 71% of Democrats undecided on a candidate, Bob Krist leads the 3-person field today, with 24%, while Vanessa Ward and Tyler Davis each garner just 3% of the Democrat vote today.

Treasurer Race

In the Republican primary race for Treasurer, John Murante is the clear favorite over Taylor Royal. Murante leads, 69-31% today.

Methodology: Two independent surveys were conducted, each among 350 likely voters statewide in Nebraska. Interviews were conducted February 21-22, 2018 using IVR automated interviews.
