New Mexico House to vote tomorrow

Published in Blog on July 17, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

NEWSFLASH: House Speaker Tripp informed us late yesterday evening that HJR 19 will be voted on NOT today but tomorrow, Tuesday, sometime after 4 PM.

ACTION ITEM 1: Call your representative's office today! Simply say, "Please support HJR 19." (Get phone number here.)

ACTION ITEM 2: Send your ONE CLICK call for support to ALL 70 House members today! Click here.

Ships and mountains are legendary... in being difficult to move. Yet we New Mexico supporters of a Convention of States have done so. First, with our calls to House Speaker Tripp's office asking for a committee hearing. Second, with calls and emails to the House Judiciary Committee for passage to the floor.

Today, we MUST continue to flood the phone lines to our respective representatives. Rather than voting on Saturday, we've received word that the House will vote on HJR 19 tomorrow, March 17, sometime after 4:00 p.m.

If you haven't left that 15 second message with your representative's secretary, asking for support of HJR 19 please do so today. (Here's how to get the capitol office number.) Remember, calls are one of the most effective ways of influencing legislators.

We've also made available a new tool for pressing congress to bring the power home to New Mexico via a Convention of States--a new ONE CLICK petition app. Go to: www.ConventionOfStatesNM.com/cosConnect/HousePetition.html to contact all 70 House members with just ONE CLICK! Let them know the mountain of support that's out there for COS.

Thank you for all your hard work. Know that it's paying off. We are almost out of the House! Then it's onto the sprint in the Senate.

We can do this if we all make those calls and muster with ONE CLICK!

What is HJR 19?

Article V of the U.S. Constitution gives the states power to propose amendments through a Convention of States. HJR 19 is New Mexico's application to call for a Convention of States for the purpose of proposing amendments that would limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints and establish term limits on its officials.
