Mark Meckler: "This story moved me to tears"

Published in Blog on December 19, 2018 by Article V Patriot

This story is deeply personal to me, but it’s one I know I must share.

My home office is constantly buzzing. My wife and I both work around the clock for Convention of States, so most conversations around our dining table center on stories about the patriots we’ve spoken to that day.

But when we heard about Virginia Neimi, a woman who became a grassroots activist at the age of 84 and then gave her entire life’s savings to Convention of States... we were moved to tears.

After a lifetime of working for every penny she earned, Virginia retired to live on a very meager pension.

When Obamacare was introduced, Virginia became one of the millions of people trying to make ends meet under the burden of spiking healthcare costs.

Virginia was overwhelmed and upset.

The thought of someone in Washington, D.C. stripping her of the right to choose her own healthcare was too egregious to sit on the sidelines.

Instead of complaining, she took action. At 84 years old, she threw herself headlong into the world of citizen engagement.

When her granddaughter, Tamara Colbert, told her that she was volunteering to be the Texas State Director for the Convention of States Project, Virginia immediately got to work.

Clad in her favorite gold sneakers and glittering navy blazer, she walked the halls of the Texas Capitol, lobbying on behalf of Convention of States with her daughter, granddaughter, and twin grandsons...four generations of patriots!

Upon her passing in 2018, she bequeathed her entire life’s savings of $5,000 to Convention of States Action -- the organization she believed was the last line of defense for liberty.

Virginia’s family wanted her legacy of patriotism to reach and inspire thousands of Americans to take-up and fill her golden sneakers.

We were so moved by Virginia’s contagious passion for our nation that when her family asked us to launch a legacy giving program in her honor and to honor other patriots like her, the only answer was, “Yes, we will!”

So from now until the December 31st -- if you contribute to Virginia’s memorial fund or make a contribution in honor of your own loved one -- your gift will be matched.

As we approach Christmas, we hope you will consider this unique opportunity to honor a loved one and invest in the gift of liberty for future generations.
