Hi moms! Convention of States Michigan is here for you!
Timeout with COS Moms! Grab your tea, coffee or cocktail! It’s time for your timeout!
Thank goodness it is time for the holidays! Even as we prepare to bring 2024 to a close and spend a meaningful (albeit busy) holiday season with our children and families, what are you doing this season to reflect on the republic?
You can learn and instill Thanksgiving civic-mindfulness, the challenges and successes that shaped the first Thanksgiving, and reflect on the most seminal foundation of the greatest country of humanity.
I recommend this book: The Thanksgiving Story, by Alice Dalgliesh.
It tells the complete story of the Mayflower Atlantic ocean crossing, the first winter, the Pilgrims' relationship with the local Indian tribes and the resulting first Thanksgiving meal. The book ends with giving thanks to God for His blessings in the new America.
This children’s book is great for all ages. It is actually a chapter book; however, the chapters are short. There is a detailed and beautifully-written description of the new world, the Pilgrims, and their relationship with the Native Americans who saved the Pilgrims’ lives. Truly, without the support of Squanto, Massasoit and others, America would have been lost from the start.
There is enough substance to this 20-ish page book for arts and craft ideas, writing abstracts, and great discussion! Convention of States Michigan is here to support our civic-minded moms! Find the support and resources you need to instill civic virtue and responsibility in your children!
