Thanks to the efforts of thousands of Texas grassroots activists, HJR 77 has been scheduled for a public hearing on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th at 8:00 a.m. in the Senate State Affairs Committee.
"On a day when Americans are remembering those who served our nation and gave the ultimate sacrifice preserving the cause of liberty, it is appropriate that HJR 77 seeks to restore the federal system envisioned by America's Founders and defended by those who fought and died for this great Republic," said Senator Paul Bettencourt (SD-07).
HJR 77 is an application for an amending convention of states under Article V of the US Constitution. The application specifically calls for fiscal restraint, limiting the size, scope and jurisdiction of the federal government and term limits on federal officials and members of Congress.
Three states in 2014 passed the same application, Georgia, Florida and Alaska. Since January of this year, 36 states filed the exact application, including Texas, most recently passing in Alabama.
The Senate State Affairs Committee will meet in Room E1.016 at 8:00a.m.
