Another Memorial Day Holiday is upon us. That long weekend we crave throughout the winter. The herald of Summer and all the beauty it brings.
But Memorial Day is more than just another day off, and I believe it is time to reflect on the true meaning of the day.
Memorial Day to most is a three day release from the trials of life. It's a time to feel the warm sand between your toes, to venture into the mountains and find serenity, to just relax and forget about the real world.
And it's good to relax, forget about our problems, and just enjoy time with friends and family.
But we must always remember that this day is for all those who put honor above home, freedom above family, sacrifice above sanctuary. They chose to defend our Constitution, our freedom, and our liberty. They chose the Warrior's Way, and some paid the ultimate price.
They were members of our families and our friends. Some left us recently, most left us long ago. It matters not in the scheme of life. All that matters is that they were patriots!
Memorial Day should be viewed as a time to reflect on the sacrifices made in the name of freedom. It is a time to mourn for the lost. But most of all, it is a time to remember and honor those still with us.
Let us stand united and show our appreciation to the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces. They are the true heroes of the republic. They are the warriors who hold back the tide of tyranny. They are the ones who embody the true spirit of these United States.
Honor them with the respect and dignity they deserve. Show your pride in these brave Americans, who put their lives on the line daily to protect our glorious republic. Their patriotic spirit lives on in all of us!
So this Memorial Day, take a moment to thank a vet. Without our veterans, we wouldn't be living in the greatest nation on Earth, breathing the sweet air of freedom!
