Back in the Summer of 2016, I felt discouraged with the direction of the election. It was honestly looking like Team Communism had taken command. Consequently, I was more than eager for a planned interruption by driving my family to Colorado for our granddaughter's baptism.
On the way out there, my wife saw a sign on I-80W informing us of the only monument dedicated to the Bill of Rights. I was skeptical the only monument to the Bill of Rights was stuck somewhere in a sleepy town in the middle of Iowa, but I decided we could stop there on our way back to Michigan anyways.
On our return trip to Michigan, I drove straight to the monument location. This took about 12 hours, so we arrived shortly after midnight.
The little town was quiet, unlit for visitors. So, I had to shine my headlights on the monument to see it.
It was a large plaque with the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution written in block lettering. I had my family wake up and wrap themselves in blankets close to the monument so they could hear my sermon without me having to raise my voice too loudly.
There, I delivered a speech to them to always remember the importance of Liberty, especially given the direction of our country.
Upon completing my remarks, they quickly got back into the car and promptly went back to sleep. I wasn't much for rousing my crew with enthusiasm, but I at least made my point on the importance of the gift of Liberty.
This very gift is why I am dedicated to the mission of Convention of States and Citizens for Self-Governance.
