Laurie Sallans has been happily retired since October of 2017. Her work-life experiences included various positions in customer service, the automotive industry, City of Dearborn HR, and working her last 10 years as an HR Administrator for Carhartt. Laurie was supporting the Senior VP of HR/Executive along with four Directors and a department of over 50 people. It was during this time that Laurie joined the Carhartt Toastmasters group and was the Vice President of Membership for two years.
Laurie found herself living the dream after her retirement. She resides in Westland with her husband Al and their dogs Millie and Macie. She has been traveling with her husband who works in the airline industry and picks up the new planes from the Airbus factories for the fleet. They have traveled to Germany and France multiple times and spent 7 weeks in Ireland.
Laurie has found that being a mother and grandmother is the most rewarding part of her life. She enjoys spending time with her two daughters and 11 grandchildren ranging in age from 10 to 23 years old. They keep her busy making memories together while decorating cookies and gingerbread houses. She enjoys helping her daughters by picking the grandkids up from school or having them spend the night hanging out watching movies and eating popcorn.
While spending time with family is important, there seemed to be more pressing issues taking place in our country that could affect the future and happiness of her family. It was time to volunteer for the Trump campaign, which led to making phone calls before the election.
After the 2020 election, there was so much more at stake. That is when Laurie signed a Convention of States petition and checked the box to volunteer. There was a follow-up phone call and an invite to a COS meeting at Barnes and Noble. It was there that Laurie found the army she could join to save our country. Within two months she accepted the offer to become the State Block Walk Captain and help build an engaged army of self-governing grassroots activists.
