From Holding Signs to Becoming a State Leader

Published in Blog on May 11, 2021 by Nancy Suits

Florida passed the resolution in 2014, so you might be asking, "What can I do now?" Actually, a lot.

States that have passed the Resolution must stay engaged and train new members on the tools and resources. The team has aspirational goals like activating the greatest grassroots army in America.

One top priority goal in Florida as a passed states is to train a District Captain in all 120 House Districts (we have over 50 now). Also, meeting and speaking with all the new legislators to keep them informed about Convention of States is another Florida state goal.

Florida has amazing leaders who can support and help you become an engaged citizen. We got a country to save, but when and why?

With a strong sense of dread pumped up by the news cycle, it was clear why I should, although, HOW was another question.

While I was searching for a place to volunteer my time, energy and talent, I was listening to a Mark Levin podcast. He invited listeners to sign the petition at the Convention of States Project website. So I signed on and began reading up on all the COS articles and watched a few videos feeling 'perhaps there is hope and a solution.'

I went from initiating my involvement by standing on a street corner with other concerned citizens about overspending and taxes to being fully engaged, training other citizens how to focus and choose a role using their talents.

Here is a short video of that first ever Miami TEA Party Rally where I stood on the street holding a sign. These street gatherings occurred all over the country on April 15, 2009 (tax filing day).

I started out at the Convention of States Project by signing up as a District Captain. I got to know the State Leaders and the team, and started to help grow a team in my own district. If you're interested in volunteering in a meaningful way, the District Captain position is ultimately important.

I am honored to work at the Convention of States Project and I view my volunteer time as a part of a larger effort to grow and build a self-governing citizenry.

There is a path and a solution to the challenges facing this country. Working through the Convention of States Project as a platform is one option, and I think it's the only solution to reining in the federal government.

The legislatures of the States can pass a resolution to send commissioners to a Convention of States to

  • Impose Fiscal Restraints on the federal government,
  • Limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government
  • Limit the terms of office for federal officials and members of Congress.

Become a Servant Leader. Start by signing the petition and then choosing a role under Take Action. The Country needs you to start today.
