“If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace,” quoted Mark Meckler from founding firebrand Samuel Adams. “Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you, and may posterity not remember that ye were once our countrymen.”
“There’s humor in that,” Mark added in addressing the commissioners at COSF’s recent Article V simulated convention, “but there’s a very serious attitude in that.”
We must confront an uncomfortable truth about the state of our beloved Union—liberty is slipping away from us. Freedom, like sand through a sieve, is slipping through our fingers. If we wish for future generations to live in the same freedom we've thus far enjoyed, it is incumbent upon us to fight.
Of course, in calling on patriot leaders to engage in this fight, Mark does not necessarily mean physically. Far too many Americans today are drawn toward political violence, but that path is unequivocally not the solution.
In calling us to fight, Mark is calling us to give of our lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. He beckons us to sacrifice for the greater good of the country.
“You have chosen to fight,” Mark concluded, “when there is still, in my opinion, a very good chance for victory for the United States of America. It is time that we pursue that victory with all due vigor.”
