The warmth of the (occasional) spring sun may often seem to be shut out in these dark days for the republic.
Illiberal abusers of power and speech have exacerbated border vulnerability, made the term voter integrity Orwellian, and encroached upon our health privacy and freedom to choose. All of these offenses have eroded sovereignty and the conditions of ordered liberty and limited self-government.
But these forces have motivated a significant number of Massachusetts citizens to take action.
Since November 1 over 2,300 Bay State residents have signed the petition in support of an Article V Convention of States.
Just as importantly, a great deal of those petition signers are actively lending their time, enthusiasm, and talent as volunteers to spread the word about our effort to shine the greatest disinfectant known to man and reclaim our sovereignty.
Newly-minted District Captains and volunteers have joined existing COS Massachusetts leadership to organize meetings to explain Article V and its purposes, counter opposition, and engage with state representatives and senators.
- State Director Michael Arnold has been interviewed on several media platforms throughout the Commonwealth.
- Rallies in towns such as Bridgewater and in Lexington (the latter on Patriots' Day) have been well-attended and yielded new signers and volunteers.
- Mass COS secured the endorsement of the organization the United Cape Patriots, which has a strong presence on Cape Cod.
- Articles have appeared in the monthly newspaper the Boston Broadside and expanded our profile. Our presence on social media has also grown, and will continue to do so as new social media platforms are launched.
As noted in the blog last month, more co-sponsors have signed on to the COS resolutions in the state legislature, the Massachusetts General Court.
On a further encouraging note, the House COS resolution (now known as H. 3660) has been assigned to the Joint Committee on Veteran and Federal Affairs. Information for contacting the members of that committee to urge support for COS can be found here.
Those committee members will be sure to hear from our ranks.
Mass COS is a grassroots movement in sharp relief and republican self-government as was envisioned by the Founders, who bequeathed Article V to us for such a time as this.
As those in power increase their efforts to tighten their grip, so increases our number and our motivation to fight back with the ultimate weapon: Article V of the United States Constitution. Join the fight.
