Maryland Unmasked: The "Free State" is Free Again.

Published in Blog on May 17, 2021 by Maria Moungelis Bedard

Maryland was first recognized as a "Free State" on November 1, 1864, when the Maryland Constitution of 1864 took effect. By its provisions, slavery within the State's borders was abolished, and Maryland, indeed, became a free state.

To celebrate the emancipation, under direction of the Baltimore City Council, five-hundred guns were fired, bells were rung, and flags displayed "to attest the joy of the people at their great deliverance."

That historic commitment to freedom was reaffirmed on Saturday, May 15, when Governor L. Harry Hogan lifted all COVID-19 related capacity limits and restrictions, including the mask mandate (albeit at the discretion of local jurisdictions and business owners). A victory over the oppressive lockdowns nonetheless.

Marylanders are now free to show their faces in public after 14 months of the government’s suspension of our freedoms and liberties. I'll be attending a mask burning backyard bonfire in the coming days to express my joy at the lifting of the mask mandate.

So the lockdowns are not the "new normal" after all. Nothing about the past 14 months has been normal; in fact, the lockdowns have been utterly abnormal and truly absurd at times. Regardless, we should remain happy warriors and help our maskaholic friends transition to the "real normal."

I have spent the last 14 months doing my best to maintain my dignity and personal strength. I have refused to allow the pandemic to transform my family into hysterical or fearful creatures. We often spoke of the perils of those who would willingly relinquish personal liberties to elected officials and unelected bureaucrats (there were 425 lockdown days of examples!). I am not alone.

Citizens concerned for the future of their country, under federal and state governments that are increasingly bloated, corrupt, reckless and invasive, have a constitutional option. We can call a Convention of States to bring power back to the states and the people, where it belongs. Be an unmasked and unabashed 21st Century Patriot. Join us and Sign the Petition
