Life, Liberty, and the Final Ultimatum

If these last few weeks have told us anything, it’s that we are in a race against time.

The incompetence of our government has never been clearer than during the current military and humanitarian crisis raging in Afghanistan.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of 9/11, the news is filled with reports of the Taliban roaring back onto the scene, bringing death and destruction with them. As I’m writing this, we’ve just gotten word that 4 Marines and over 60 civilians were killed by a Taliban suicide bomber (*that number has since increased to 13 service members and over 90 Afghanis with additional reports of 10 other service members in critical condition).

There’s a saying that when America sneezes, the world catches a cold.

We are not only in a race to save our country, we are in a race to save our way of life.

We are in a race to save liberty.

During Reagan’s Goldwater years, he gave one of the most prophetic speeches in modern American politics, “A Time for Choosing.” Often called “The Speech” – Reagan discussed Nikita Khrushchev’s claim that America would someday fall to communism and would do so by our own hand. “Someday when the time comes to deliver the final ultimatum, our surrender will be voluntary because by that time we will have weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically.”

Make no mistake, we are approaching the final ultimatum.

Our government is full of career politicians and bureaucrats who represent their own special interest rather than the People. Washington, D.C., spends money it doesn’t have on pet projects of the ruling elite. Laws are passed that make it harder for people to survive. Data is cherry-picked while agencies design emergency mandates that cripple our economy, schools, and health care systems. Regulations are selectively applied making it nearly impossible for small business to grow while industries are taken over by titans and foreign businesses.

Many will throw up their hands, crying over the daily news “but what can be done?”

Well, it’s simple. 

Join us in calling a Convention of States.

By using Article V of the Constitution, We the People - acting through our state legislatures - can propose amendments that will rein in federal overreach, put fiscal restraints on spending, and place term limits on federal officials and members of Congress.

Let’s put the federal government back in its box.

In July, COS Maryland started the 50k Race to Liberty – our goal was to double our number of petition signers as we move into our next session. We need to show our state legislators the power of our voice, demanding they do the jobs they were elected to do.

In August our volunteers attended numerous events across the State, promoting our message of freedom and self-governance. We’ve gained a lot of support and have increased our volunteer pool, but we need to do more.

What we need is more people like you.

COS Maryland has had some important successes – but we need the state to cross the finish line. We finish this race with a dramatic increase in support and petition signers. We finish this race by requiring our elected officials to represent us.

How can you help?

Sign the Petition: this is a no-brainer. Sign our petition and join the movement! Not sure if you’ve signed it? Check to make sure!

Share with Friends: Share this blog post with at least five people (right now) and ask them to support COS Action in Maryland by signing the petition today. Have people in other states that would be interested? Let us help connect them to their state teams and join this nationwide movement.

Join the Volunteer Movement: use your gifts and talents on an ever-growing team and help us spread the ideas of freedom, liberty, and self-governance.

That’s it. It’s pretty simple.

Reagan said it best, all it takes is for you and I to say “there is a price we will not pay, there is a point beyond which they must not advance.” Thankfully, our Constitution still holds power in this land, and there are provisions within it that allow for removal of power from corrupt, bloated, bureaucracy.

Reagan spoke of a rendezvous with destiny to “preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth...”
