Liberty vs. Tyranny

Published in Blog on August 23, 2021 by Deborah Efurd

A large group of patriots from across Texas Senate District 1 gathered at Luigi’s Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, on Saturday, August 14, to learn more about growing a grassroots army who support Article V of the Constitution.  All attending came eager to learn.

John Van Compernolle, a COS volunteer since 2014, was the guest speaker at the meeting.  He is well versed in Article V and related how he spent 20 days in Austin during the regular Texas Legislative Session talking to legislators and getting to know what makes them tick. He explained in depth the history of how our country has moved away from the liberty we cherish to an over-reaching tyrannical government. As he explained, it’s really about Liberty vs. Tyranny.

John takes his Convention of States opportunities seriously and feels a civic duty to volunteer his time to help save this country from a power-hungry government. Convention of States’ goal is to “bring power back to the states and the people where it belongs.”

Susan Hamilton, Regional Captain for Senate District 1, composed of Bowie, Camp, Cass, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Lamar, Marion, Morris, Panola, Red River, Rusk, Titus, Upshur, Wood and Smith counties, presided over the meeting, answering questions and directing attendees to the correct sources of information.

Susan went on to explain that Convention of States resolutions have been passed in 15 states across the country, with several other states either in committee or one of the legislative chambers. Constitutionally, 34 states are required in order to “call” for a convention, with 38 states required to pass an amendment. Once passed, an amendment would then be presented to the citizens of the states respectively for their ratification.

There was a question posed about the concept of calling a Convention of States, particularly with respect to a “Runaway Convention” changing the Constitution altogether. John explained that while that could be a danger, “it is a much smaller danger than not having a convention.” He further explained that because of the number of states that have to get together to pass anything, the chances of any drastic changes taking place are quite minimal. “It would only take 13 states to veto any proposed amendment,” he stated.

Enthusiasm in Convention of States grows bigger with each meeting held. People are signing the petition and volunteering to be a part of Convention of States’ self-governing grassroots army.  Join us to make a difference in this country.  www.conventionofstates.com
