Wisdom that Transcends its Original Context. Let's Explore How it Might Apply to Politics:

Published in Uncategorized on April 06, 2024 by Edward O. Barnes

“Verily, verily, I say unto you,
The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.”

John 13:16 holds profound wisdom that transcends its original context. Let's explore how it might apply to politics:

Jesus spoke

Servant Leadership:

  • Jesus' words emphasize humility and service. He says, "The servant is not greater than his lord."
  • In politics, leaders should remember that their authority doesn't make them superior; rather, it calls them to serve.
  • A true leader prioritizes the well-being of others over personal gain.

1.  Accountability and Responsibility:

  • ○   Just as Jesus was accountable to His Father, political leaders are accountable to their constituents and the principles they uphold.
  • ○   Being "sent" (elected or appointed) doesn't elevate one above the mission; it underscores responsibility.
  • ○   Leaders should act with integrity, knowing they represent something greater than themselves.

2.  Avoiding Entitlement:

  • ○   The verse challenges entitlement. No one can say, "I'm too important for certain tasks."
  • ○   In politics, leaders must avoid arrogance, remembering they serve the people who entrusted them with authority.
  • ○   Humility fosters better decision-making and genuine connection with constituents.

3.  Unity and Mutual Respect:

  • ○   Jesus washed His disciples' feet, demonstrating love and unity.
  • ○   In politics, leaders should seek common ground, respecting diverse perspectives.
  • ○   Collaboration, not superiority, leads to effective governance.

4.  Application:

  • ○   Politicians can apply this verse by serving selflessly, listening to constituents, and acting with integrity.
  • ○   Citizens can hold leaders accountable, expecting humility and genuine service.

Remember, the heart of leadership lies in serving others, not in personal status or power. 🗳️🏛️1 5.
