Convention of States supporters joined Iowa legislators in a subcommittee of the Iowa House Committee on State Government for a roundtable discussion on House Joint Resolution (H.J.R.) 6, the COS Article V application. After hearing several proponent testimonies, the subcommittee voted to pass the application, which will now appear before the full committee.
Seated at a table with three representatives, Iowa State Director Karen Schuster laid out the definitive case for the Hawkeye State to join the movement. “Congress has had the power to propose amendments that will rein in the federal government,” she said. “It hasn’t, and it won’t. This a problem the Framers foresaw, and it’s the very reason they gave us the second method to propose amendments.”
Previously, a Senate subcommittee voted favorably for the application, which enjoys the support of over 56,000 Iowans who have signed the COS petition. Today’s hearing continued to capitalize on the massive grassroots momentum for COS in Iowa and nationwide, driving yet another crucial victory.
