If I Die Tonight

Published in Blog on November 04, 2021 by Joe Mavilia

I was born into a family of immigrants and love the “Happy Days” America I grew up in. If I die from influenza A or B or even COVID-19, so be it. I've never had a flu shot and certainly won't submit to a COVID vaccine.

I didn't die in a plane on fire over Luzon in my 20s, and I won't die of cowardice from a runny nose in my 80s, no matter the cause. “If I die tonight, I'll be walking with the Lord tomorrow. And if I don't die tonight, He will be walking with me tomorrow," a wise old man once told me.

Oohrah and anchors aweigh, my boys!

Lyrics:
Anchors aweigh, my boys, anchors aweigh
Farewell to foreign shores, we sail at break of day, of day Through our last night ashore, drink to the foam.
Until we meet again, here's wishing you a happy voyage home.

My time in the Navy was the result of a country that bestowed on me a moral compass established by America’s wise founding fathers. They crafted a more perfect union based on belief in a power infinitely greater than any mortal man. That energized us to do the right things. Mark Twain said that would gratify some and astonish the rest. Indeed it did.

I found myself in the military to give back, to say thanks to a country and its citizens, teachers and preachers who taught me it would be up to each generation to protect the great country we had been blessed to be a part of. Enlistees took an oath where all “... solemnly swear that they will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign AND DOMESTIC.... So, help you God.”

My Uncle Tony (USMC) and Uncle Joe (USN) survived WWII, came home, and engaged in business and raised their families. I was impressed by these two squared away, disciplined proud American servicemen, and I wanted that too. I valued their example of what Americans are all about, and why they are respected all over the world.

I found that to be true in my Naval Air Travel years in much of the Pacific and Asia.

So, this all leads to me being disheartened, seeing my beloved Country going down in flames because it has lost its moral compass. Everything I swore to defend is being corrupted by greed of power-hungry, lifer politicians who dishonor the offices they are supposed to represent.

We believed that no one of us should ever be left behind--and lo and behold!--the shameful abandonment of many American citizens and loyal allies in the administration's bailing out of Afghanistan.

These are my reasons for being a content writer in support of the Convention of States. It is one of the most honorable endeavors to turn back the clock, stop the madness in government and return to the Law of the Land we love so dearly.

I have a dream that enough people will support the historic effort of the Convention of States. One day, enough states will band together as brothers in arms to reestablish the original intent of our Constitution that has made America extraordinary and that light on a hill seen by the whole world.
