Hope at the Intersection of Main and Kansas

Published in Blog on June 08, 2021 by David Copeland

They started to roll down Main Street just before 8AM. Three hours later, there were about 3000 motorcycles parked on Main and connecting streets of Cassoday, Kansas. This was the first Sunday morning of June.

The Cassoday Bike Run dates back to 1991 when riders from the Christian Bikers Association (CBA) began showing up for breakfast at the Cassoday Café. Each first Sunday from March through October, Cassoday draws riders from central and eastern Kansas as they cruise the Flint Hills on the Scenic Byway (K-177) or the Kansas Turnpike.

Convention of States heard about the event from the grassroots. “You need to come and tell these riders about COS. We have a spot for you,” said Deloris Shannon, one of the Cassoday business owners hosting the monthly rendezvous.

Before the first riders stopped at our tent, District Captain Connie Davidson from Shawnee was across the street talking to the folks at the CBA tent who were soon over to hear more and sign the petition. One man said that he had hope in Christ but had no hope for the survival our republic. He said, “I was afraid we were in a death spiral and I was going to see the end, but with this, maybe not!”

“I didn’t know we could do this,” echoed through the morning as curious bikers eyed our banner and stopped to hear our explanation of Article V. Then, they wanted to know why Kansas was not one of the passed states. “What is wrong with those people?”

You can’t cast a vote in the Kansas Legislature but there are things you can do.

  1. Sign the Petition sent to your legislators. If you have already signed, have your friends sign it today.
  2. Contact your legislators to remind them you want to see SCR1611 pass in the 2022 session and Kansas to join the list of states applying to have a convention of states.
  3. Apply to be a District Captain or Volunteer. Grassroots action is local action. Start at home and work out from there.
  4. Help your district team walk a neighborhood telling folks that we still have time to turn things around in Washington and it starts right here in Kansas. Contact your local COS Team.
  5. If you and your friends ride, come to Cassoday and meet the CBA and us on the next first Sunday morning at Main and Kansas, the Intersection of Hope.
