Volunteer leaders forge commitment of service to the grassroots at Convention of States Western Regional Meeting

Published in Blog on September 27, 2018 by Debra J Oresko

Convention of States Western Region volunteer leaders from six states assembled September 14-15 in Sacramento, CA for an enriching conference on servant leadership.

The event was hosted by Ginny Rapini, National Grassroots Coordinator for Convention of States. An update from Convention of States President, Mark Meckler via webcam and a special message from Executive Vice President Mike Ruthenberg ignited attendees with the historic significance of the Article V Convention of States endeavor.

"Document this!" Meckler exclaimed. "It will become part of your families' history and our nation's history."

During the Friday evening reception, organized by Joanne Martin, the volunteers played games to foster friendship. They discovered many shared ideals, from constitutional literacy to sacrificial patriotism and the spirit of cooperation. Among those in attendance were home builders, naval and military veterans, a cattle rancher, a nurse, entrepreneurs, managers and executives.

Martin, who is an Assistant to Ginny Rapini, traveled from Texas to provide logistics and technical support for the conference, which was held at the comfortable and accommodating Hampton Inn and Suites, Sacramento-Airport-Natomas.

Monica Sellers, a Regional Director and long-time Convention of States volunteer, traveled all the way from Ohio to share a message of hope that nature favors living things that work together for a common mission.

Ginny Rapini shared several testimonies of God’s faithfulness through the trials of leadership and inspired attendees with stories on the value of seeing a project, or adventure, through to its glorious end.

She told a story of a group of hikers in the Swiss Alps. Half of the group decided to rest at a mountanside inn, while the other half of the group hiked up to the peak.

As the hours went by, those who remained at the inn grew bored and regretted their decision to stay back.

Convention of States volunteers understand that making history with a first-ever Convention of the States requires patient effort. Those who have been with the project since its launch five years ago are some of the most passionate.

The Western States volunteers for the Convention of States hope those who read this report will join us in restoring representative government and a culture of self-governance in America.
