Like the Founders, we must put aside our differences and unite for our freedom

The following was written by Bill Grill, volunteer for Convention of States California.

My friends and fellow Americans, we wake up everyday as citizens of a country with its freedom and liberties already defined. And everyday it seems we take our freedoms and liberties for granted.

The views of conservatives and liberals have become so polarized that a deep divide has formed, and it seems no one wants to compromise. But did you know that if the Founding Fathers had this same attitude, our Constitution might never have been ratified?

When the Constitution was drafted, the Founders were divided, (Federalists versus Anti-Federalists), on the issue of how to organize the country. Simply stated, the Federalists wanted a stronger central government and ratification of the Constitution. The Anti-Federalists wanted a weak central government with power to remain with the state and local governments.

The Founders came to a compromise that resulted in ratification of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The Founders came together, as Americans do, and found a working solution to the issue that divided them. While Americans have always had differing political viewpoints, up to now we have always been able to compromise.

We have lost that feeling of community and fallen into disagreement on how to fix the crisis we now face. But the wisdom of the Founders left us a way to fix the country and maintain our constitutional republic. They gave us Article V.

Under Article V of our Constitution, the people--through their state legislatures--can call a Convention of States to propose amendments to fix what is wrong with our government.

We the People can come together, in community as Americans, and fix our country. Join us and help restore our Constitution and bring America together again.
