District Captain Richard “Rich” Russell and members of the Convention of States Grand Lake team recently attended the 10th Anniversary of U.S. Constitution Week in Grand Lake, Colorado. The week-long event featured seminars, Constitutional trivia, a parade, flyover, fireworks, and an array of speakers throughout the week including Professor Rob Natelson, actor Kevin Sorbo, Keynote Speaker Professor Joshua Dunn, and COS’ own Grant Martin.
The annual Constitution Week is a natural fit for Convention of States conversations, as the event is bipartisan in nature, but most attendees are conservative. Thanks to beautiful Colorado weather, the crowds enjoyed the keynote speaker outdoors in the town square on Saturday, where the COS Grand Lake team had set up an event booth alongside other vendors for the day.
Grant Martin drew a crowd of nearly one hundred attendees during his Friday night presentation. “Grant shared with the crowd how our Constitution has evolved from a one-page document of our forefathers’ creation to the ‘CONAN’ Constitution Annotated 3000-page book of today,” Rich commented. “Imagine trying to carry around a pocket version of that!”
The crowd clearly enjoyed Grant’s presentation, because the COS team received a whopping ninety signed petitions at their booth the next day. “We were by far the busiest booth, even busier than the merchandise booth!” Rich exclaimed. “The event is very popular and I expect to receive at least a few volunteers for my district, thanks to our efforts at the event.”
Next year’s U.S. Constitution Week is currently scheduled for September 12th through 18th, 2022.
