If any member of our physical body decided that it no longer liked the job it was intended to do, the results would be catastrophic. Imagine the fun of a hand deciding it was a mouth or the kidney that it was the stomach. How about the heart deciding it was going to take it easy and be an intestine for a change?
Now I know that all of these questions are completely hypothetical, but in reality, we often see body parts that no longer function as intended. And the older we get, the balance between proper function and dysfunction of our body parts becomes more fragile and delicate.
The painfulness of a body without proper function is similar to watching most of our government entities, and especially our Federal Government, as we continue to age as a Republic.
Does our government, either Local, State, or Federal, operate with the purpose originally intended?
Does it perform the tasks designated to this government, or does this body fight against its own purpose?
In large part, our current federal leviathan has become something so bloated and out of shape, that it cannot perform its function effectively.
The current state of our federal government is like a defensive tackle, recently completing his college football playing career, and showing up to the NFL Scouting Combine 50 pounds heavier than his previous playing weight.
The results of this showing at an event that may decide this person’s future career and ability to make the money offered by the NFL would be extremely detrimental. And the reason for this would be solely placed on the individual for not keeping themselves in peak condition for their job function.
The oft-misused preamble to the United States Constitution as transcribed reads as follows: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
This in essence is the purpose of the Constitution, as well as the entirety of the federal government bureaucracy.
To keep this short, and not bore you with useless facts or details, we will not dissect this important statement in its entirety in this post.
But to glean some nugget of truth in regards to the need for a Convention of States is something we should be able to gain fairly easily.
Because an Article V convention is nothing more than a trainer motivating a football player that miserably performed his draft showing to return to peak physical condition.
Let's look at one example from the preamble, as this is the mission statement of our Constitutional Government. It is the Quality Policy from which the federal government should compare as the goal for our nation.
Today we will just pick one of the items, probably the main item as it relates to any government. The item we will look at today is the simple phrase “provide for the common defense”.
This is the most ancient of all ancient responsibilities of a government of any kind. Providing for the defense of the people of the established nation.
But is our Federal government defending us as citizens for our common defense?
Look at our Southern (and now Northern) borders. Does a wide open border provide for the common defense? I am not asking an immigration question or discussing the need or lack of need for new immigrants.
Has a porous border ever benefited the security of a nation? The obvious answer is no, but the need of the people to be defended is ignored due to issues of political nature without regard for the people who elected these political individuals.
Does relinquishing our sovereignty to protect everyone from a supposed climate change that is occurring, although in rather random and unmeasurable ideas of what is good and what is bad, provide a common defense for the people?
Does ignoring the relentless assault from our enemies around the globe, especially from the Chinese Communist Party, provide the defense and security the people of America need and deserve from our Federal Government?
Does making reforms to release more violent criminals onto the streets of America, while imprisoning tax violators and political opponents provide for the common defense of our nation?
Or attempting to remove weapons from law-abiding citizens, or not allowing them to carry in order to truly defend the weak and helpless amongst us from those who have a warped view of life's purpose?
Will ignoring the aggressiveness of China to undermine our currency and diplomacy in all parts of the world provide for our common defense?
Does keeping Ukraine involved in a war that is currently taking every ounce of military weaponry and personnel from our enemy Russia provide for the common defense?
I am not going to go into what I think our government should do in each situation. We all make good armchair quarterbacks. But I am under the firm impression that if the political entities of our government were forced to acknowledge the true purpose of their existence, they would make better decisions.
It is not the government’s job to save the planet, but it is the government’s job to establish security measures for the citizens of the nation.
Especially in America, as we have given our government the framework in which to securely operate, which would ensure our long-lasting Liberty and Security.
But just as cheeseburgers can be a very detrimental object to a professional athlete, the power of elected officials in Washington leads to atrophy, not physical fitness, in our upper levels of government.
This glut of power in the federal government and its lack of desire to trim any fat, or to focus on its true purpose, is where the problem lies. And it causes us to portray extraordinary weakness as a nation at this present time.
It is time that we the people of the United States of America do what we need to do, to become the physical trainers we need to be, and help our Federal Government in Washington get back to the purpose it was intended.
And we do this by limitation as well as good exercise. A diet is required to lose weight, so limitations on our Federal Government are required to make it the lean, fit, liberty-promoting machine it was designed to be.
We must exercise our rights as free people according to our laws in order to see our government system change for the better.
